the 1955 National FFA convention
by six days. Two members of the
Denton chapter. Halsler and Presi-
dent John Smith, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Dillon Smith of Denton, will
attend the national meeting, to be
held Oct. 10-13 in Kansas City.
Haisler in a graduate member of
the Denton FFA chapter.
At the banquet here Tuesday
night, national award funds
amounting to $450 will be distrib-
uted to FFA members and chap-
ten.
Final plans will be made for all
area delegates to attend the Na-
tional convention. The Santa Fe
special train carrying all Texas
FFA members to Kansas City will
leave Fort Worth next Sunday at
10 30 pm. The Texas delegation
will roturn Friday, Oct. 14.

E. H. (Bud Martin has been
elected president of the Denton
Gideons.
Other officers chosen for the
coming year are J. E. Tipton, vice
president; Hugh Brandon, secre-
tary; O. C. Knight, treasurer; and
Owen Griffin, chaplain.
. The local Gideons also have be-
gun the distribution of New Testa-
ments to Denton County school
children.
Karl F. Smith, retiring president,
reported that since the organisa-
tion of the local camp in March,
1952, the Denton Gideons have dis-
tributed about 14,000 Bibles and
testaments to Denton County
schools, hotels, motels, hospitals,
the state school for girls at Gaines-
ville. classrooms in the Gainesville
schools, Gainesville hospitals and
motels and Perrin and Shepard Air
Force Bases
Denton churches cooperating
with the local Gideons in provid-
ing this year's distribution of
testaments and Bibles . are the
College View Baptist, Highland
Baptist, Asbury Methodist. Cum-
berland Presbyterian and the First
Christian Church.
The Gideons meet each Sunday
morning at the Southern Hotel at
7:80 for breakfast and devotional

Klepper, who died Saturday
morning of a heart attack, was
born at Stony Feb. IL 1899. add
had lived in bentn County all his
life.
He attended the Denton Hizh
School and was a member of the
Methodist Church and the Ameri-
can Legion

climaxed a busy day for city Po-
lice after they investigated four
aceidents Sunday, but no injuries
were reported in the accidents
totaling 1845 in minor damages.

out of control as he was turning
off Ponder Street, going south,
onto Scripture Street. The Ply-
mouth ran into a ditch on the south
side of Scripture, hitting a con-
crete driveway culvert.
The second accident Sunday was

North Elm. No tickets were issued
in the accident that occurred when
a 1953 Chevrolet, driven by Har-
rell L. Sexton, Justin, backed from
a parked position at the curb. A

the other' ear in the collision.
Two tickets were issued to Har-
old A. Pearce, of Denton, after an
accident around 8:02 p.m. at 1413
North Highland Street, 250 feet
east of Avenue B. Pearce was tick-
eted for no operator's license and
for failure to grant right-of-way.
Involved in the accident were a
1040 Chevrolet pickup, driven by
Pegree, and a 1951 Chevrolet,
driven by Billy Doyle Briekley,
Route 1, Denton. Police said that
Pearce was driving west on High-
land before the accident. Police
estimated 8125 damage to Pearce’s
pickup and $250 to Briekley's Chev-

Police Sunday involved a 1954
Chevrolet, driven by Mrs. Mary
Tallfiberts, Fort Worth, and a
1888 Chevrolet, driven by Billy
John Travis, of Keller. The acci-
dent. reported at 7 p.m., took place
after Mrs. Roberta ran through a
stop sign at Acme Street, pulling
out onto Fort Worth Drive. Travis,
who was driving south, hit the
Roberts Chevrolet in the rear aft-
