A 77-year old Anson man was in
critical condition with a skull frac-
ture today in Flow Memorial Hos-
pital following an auto accident
Wednesday east of Denton.
Preston Brooks Williams, under
an oxygen tent at Flow, was in-
volved in a collision involving his
car and one driven by a Gaines-
ville woman at State Highway 34
and Farm Road 424.
Lorena Eldridge Cobler was
driving south on the farm road and
Williams was driving west on
Highway 34. According to High-
way Patrolman Jerry Latimer,
who investigated the accident, the
brakes on the Cobler car appar-
ently didn't hold and the car mov-
ed onto Highway 24, colliding with
Williams' car as it passed. The
force of the collision spun Wil-
liams' car around and the door on
the driver’s aide flew open, spill-
ing Williams onto the highway.
< In another accident Wednesday,
a Dallas man escaped injry
when his truck failed to straighten
out after making a curve and
plunged down an embankment
near Clear Creek on State High-
way 10, about three miles north-
east of Denton.
James C. McCauley, 30, of 1045.
Bradfield. Dallas, was driving the
Dallas Packing Company truck
and said the steering apparatus
didn't react when he tried to
