Befriended and later loved by a
psychiatrist (Mia Farrow) she helps him
find his own identity only to lose it again
because of the greed of others. She
tracks him to a Nazi rally and a hilarious
reunion ensues.

Zelig isn't a laugh a minute farce, but
slow building social satire at its best and
definitely worth seeing.

As usual his humor has a bite and wit
concerning social issues, be it the Nazi
party or religion and upbringing; "My
parents sided with the anti-semites
against me."
Set in the early 30's and done in
newsreel style, it's the story of Leonard
Zelig (Allen), a freak, a human chameleon
so to speak. He protects his fragile
psyche by physically and mentally
becoming whomever he is around. He can
turn black, become obese, Chinese and
since he's Jewish he's a triple threat to
the Klu Klux Klan. He becomes famous, a
sideshow phenomenon and encounters all
the trappings of fame.

At long last! After seven years,
the Best, the Top Dog of Con-
temporary dance and theatre, the
Martha Graham Dance Company; the
company will open the 1983-84
season of the Society for the Per-
forming Arts, September 29,
Thursday and performing September
30, Friday, at the Jessee Jones Hall.
The film is an innovative oddity, one
that could only be conceived by Allen and
his comic genius. Mostly done in
documentary style, films of Allen are
added to old newsreels so it looks as if he
really is waiting to bat after Babe Ruth,
or partying at San Simeon with
celebrities.
Opening night, Cave of the Heart,
Deaths and Entrances and the
Houston premiere of Acts of Light
will be performed. The next night,
the three Houston premiers:
Embattled Garden, Pheadra's Dream,
and Errand into the Maze, plus
Diversion of Angels.

The new film release Zelig, written and
directed by Woody Allen is an extra-
ordinary movie that states the importance
of being yourself, in a unique and touching
way.
