A recent explanation from one of our chemical compa-
nies stated that a “pressure release” occurred and neigh-
bors reported a glow in the sky. The article further states a
“ground flare” was activated very near the time the pres-
sure release occurred.
The problem with the explanation is in the last para-
graph the spokesperson stated that while there were “re-
ports of smoke and flames coming from the plant this
was not the case” calling into question the veracity of the
citizens reporting it. A ground flare when activated will
produce flames and a glow as reported which begs the
question, are we really being told the truth from industry?

This week marked the one-year anniversary of the
brutal killing Harris County Asst. Chief Deputy Clint
Greenwood in Baytown.
His death shocked residents, particularly law en-
forcement officers. That’s why it is important to not
only honor the ultimate sacrifice paid by Greenwood
on April 3, 2017 but also all those who put their lives at
risk protecting the public.
An investigation concluded Greenwood never had a
chance, ambushed by a deranged man as he was arriv-
ing to work. The shooter committed suicide a few days
later.
Harris County Pct. 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton
unveiled a memorial honoring Chief Greenwood Tues-
day at the spot where he was killed one year ago this
week at the courthouse annex in Baytown.
Etched with his image and inscribed with Bible scrip-
ture from John 15:23, which says, “Greater love has no
one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
The courthouse was renamed after Greenwood in
July 2017.
Brave, highly trained law enforcement officers know
the risks and still do their dangerous, but necessary,
duty. That scenario plays out not only in Baytown and
Harris and Chambers counties, but also in communities
across the United States.
We must remember never to take the work of our law
enforcement men and women for granted, and to al-
ways be appreciative for the positive impact they make
in our lives on a daily basis.
Last year, Greenwood was one of nearly 130 federal,
state and local law enforcement officers who died in
the line of duty in the U.S.
As law enforcement officers, they literally devote
their lives to public service, and after daily confronta-
tions with the worst elements of society they remained
committed to helping people in need — even when it
meant putting themselves in harm’s way.
In short, it takes a special kind of person to be one
of the officers charged with protecting his or her com-
munity, allowing the rest of us to casually go about our
lives.
As we honor Greenwood’s sacrifice, give thanks and
say a prayer for all those, living and dead, who put duty
and loves him tenderly, of which derlined the symbolism of this sto-
