To say this year’s Baytown Sun
Girls Basketball MVP required de-
liberation would be an outright lie.
When you have one of the best play-
ers in the nation, you have an MVP.
Barbers Hill senior Charli Collier
completed her resume into the Bar-
bers Hill Sports Hall of Fame and
beyond this season, leading the Lady
Eagles to the regional semifinals. She
scored 1,265 points, 30.8 points per
game and added 475 rebounds, an
11.5 rebound per game average. Col-
lier also blocked 2.2 shots per game.
As a testimony to her desire to be
the best, Collier added the 3-point
shot to her repertoire and shot 38.7
percent from beyond the arc.
Collier’s resume includes TABC
and TAGC All-State. She is a 1st
team Naismith All-American, Mc-
Donald’s All-American and was one
of three finalists for Gatorade Play-
er of the Year. She was also the first
Lady Eagle to receive the Naismith
and McDonald’s honors.
Simply put, Collier has set a new
standard for greatness in the area.
“This is probably the best year
a girl could have,” Collier said. “I
have gotten so many awards, MVP
awards, McDonalds All-American,
Gatorade Texas Player of the Year.
“There are so many other things
I can achieve. Right now, that’s just
one of the highlights.”
Collier was blessed with some
physical gifts, which include 6’5
height. But it was the sweat she in-
vested into her skillset that allowed
her to enjoy a place among the na-
tion’s elite.
“I improved from freshman year
tremendously to this year,” she said.
“ I worked on my shots, my defensive
play, my effort to get up and down
the floor. I slimmed up a lot and I got
in better shape. I was focused mainly
on just getting in shape.”
Collier said she works out four
times a week and shoots in the gym
on the other three days.
She said it takes a determined ef-
fort to be among the best and it takes
drive.
“You don’t ever want to be consis-
tent with where you are at,” she said.
“You don’t want to ever be just sat-
isfied. You always want to get bet-
ter. That’s where I am at right now.
