Are your parents too strict? Hard
to reach? Ann Landers' booklet,
"Bugged By Parents? How to Get
More Freedom,” could help you
bridge the generation gap. Send 50
cents with your request and a long,
stamped, self-addressed envelope to
Ann Landers, P.O. Box 11995,
Chicago, Illinois 60611.
DEAR EMBARRASSED: I can’t
imagine what kind of medical
magazine would publish such er-
roneous information. First, it would
be impossible for a gynecologist to
examine you without using a
speculum. Second, virginity is a mat-
ter of sexual conduct, not clinical
status. If you have not engaged in
sexual intercourse, you are a virgin.
Your anger at having restrained
yourself “for nothing” raises some
questions about your interpretation
of moral conduct. Saving one’s self
for marriage should mean more than
an unruptured hymen.

DEAR READERS: Yes, it pays.
Write to your creditors again-and
explain to those who phone. Tell
them that you are doing your best to
be honorable and decent and you
wish they could do the same.

are. The Hospice program can be a
godsend. In many cities they work in
tandem with the Visiting Nurse
Assn.-another extremely fine ser-
vice organization. Often the funding
is provided by the United Way. Home
Health Care Services, paid for by
Medicare, can be another source of
relief. Look in the phone book.
DEAR ANN LANDERS: Since I
was a young girl I have felt it was im-
portant to remain a virgin until mar-
riage. I am 25 years old and take
pride in the fact that I have resisted
temptation and saved myself for the
man I marry.
Yesterday I read an article in a
medical magezine that startled me.
It said, “It is imperative to inform
your gynecologist before an exam
that you are a virgin so he will not
use an instrument that will break the
hymen, thereby depriving you of
virginity.”
I am terribly upset because I have
had three such exams due to yeast in-
fections. I am also furious that all
these years I have imposed strict
moral standards on myself for
nothing. Please give me your opinion
of this situation.-Too Embarrassed

DEAR ANN LANDERS: We have
joined the ranks of those who are
having a terrible time paying their
bills.
We were told we could file
bankruptcy or write to our creditors
and offer to pay a small amount
against the debt every payday. We
chose the latter. It seems no one read
our letters. We get two and three
phone calls a day and six or seven
dunning letters every week. The ma-
jor credit card companies are the
worst. Does it pay to be honorable?
I’m begining to doubt it. Please ad-

At one point, they say, the star is or-
biting the sun and passes close enough
to disturb a cloud of comets surroun-
ding the solar system. The gravita-
tional backlash of the star’s passing
sends thousands of comets hurtlin
toward the inner solar system where as
many as 25 will strike Earth. The im-
pact of the collision, then, darkens the
skies with dust, killing plant and
animal life.

DEAR ANN LANDERS: I must
comment on the letter from “Barely
Coping in Chicago,” the woman who
is exhausted from taking care of her
dying father. Please tell her to con-
tact Hospice.
Hospice is a team of volunteers
who can be found worldwide in large
cities and small communities. They
are trained to help patients and their
families cope with life-threatening
diseases-especially cancer.
Hospice services include bedside
attendance, transportation help, and
grief support. There are no charges
for these services. The volunteers
are wonderful, caring people.
“Barely Cping” should ask her
father’s physician about Hospice-or
inquire at any hospital. Please print
this for her and others who are
cracking under the strain of caring
for a terminal relative.-Redding,
Ca.
