Poppy Sale
Poppy sales Friday by members
of Denton’s American Legion Aux-
ilary, Unit 71, win mark the 35th
annual sale in Denton of the red
flowers, symbolic of the poppies
growing over graves of American
soldiers on Flanders Field.
Mrs. J. P. Beale, secretary-treas-
urer. announced the poppy sale
Tuesday. stating the sale would
begin with a kick-off breakfast at
the American Legion Hall Friday
at 7:30 a.m.
Chairman of the sale is Mrs. T.
E. Standefer. Members of her com-
mittee include Mrs. H. M. Bryant,
Mrs. A. D. Hartline, and Mrs.
Robert Talley.
Mrs. Beale encouraged the pur-
chase of poppies, saying the sale
is intended to benefit veterans and
their families. Funds secured from
the sale are also used for the Le-
gion’s child welfare program.
‘The poppies are mde hy dis-
ablod veterans," Mrs. Beale said,
"and purchase of them provides a
double benefit, for the veteran
making them, and for the legion’s
program of assistance to veterans,
their families, and for child wel-
fare."
"There will be around 10 of our
members selling the poppies Fri-
day,” Mrs. Beale said. "They will
be located on every side of the
square.”
“We did wonderfully well last
year," said Mrs. Belle. “We were
sold out by noon,” she said, “after
selling around 1,000 poppies.”
