PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE
May we again remind everyone of the hazards
of driving and the tragedies that follow a mo-
ment of inattention and carelessness. We, of all
people, are perhaps best qualified to speak on
this subject, because we see the end results in
injuries and death . . . and the further tragedy
of family disruption.

Spike and his crazy band behind
her. She was a smash hit.
Helen long has been known in
the trade as one of the most under-
rated singers in the country. There
was a good reason for this. It's
hard to take anyone in the Spike
Jones band seriously.
HOLLYWOOD (—The Carmel
Museum Theatre here recently
started a policy of running a silent
movie with a modern one as a
double feature.
The opening bill had "Tillie’s
Punctured Romance" with the late
Fatty Arbuckle, the Keystone Kops
and others.
The audience howled from be-
ginning to end.
At the end, a white-haired gen-
tlelman stood in the audience ask-
ing patrons how they would like to
see comedy like that on television.
The answers were all yes, to a
customer.
“You know," said white-haired
Mack Sennett, “I think I may go
into television.”

this stronghold of broken mar-
riages. it’s nice to report that
singer Helen Grayco would rather
be Mrs. Spike Jones than a big
star.

BLAKELEY FUND STILL SHY
OF $3,500 GOAL SET HERE
The fund to help Raymond Blakeley, polio victim, with house
payments stood at $1,623.52 Monday, still short of the $3,500 goal
set by the Blue Mound Home Demonstration Club.
Blakeley, father of two small children, was struck with polio
more than two years ago. He had contracted to buy a home at
2508 Beaumont only one month before he became ill.
Mrs,. W. B. May of Cooper Creek started a fund to help
Blakeley with the house payments and she was assisted when
the Blue Mound Home Demonstration Club took up the project
and started trying to raise $3.50 from 1.000 persons.
Donations to the fund are being accepted by W. C. Orr at the
First State Bank. Recently donations have come from Mrs. R. E.
p.m. Wednesday.
The Rev. Richard T. Perry, min-
ister of the First Methodist Church,
will bring the Thanksgiving mes-
sage. The Rev. Ross O. Ward, pas-
tor of the First Baptist Church,
will give the scripture lesson.

HOLLYWOOD (PHabit is tough
to overcome especially for movie
stars.
June Allyson this week ruined
a perfectly good take on Colum-
bia’s musical version of “It Hap-
pende One Night.”
In a scene with Jack Lemmon,
whose screen name is Peter, she
started calling him Richard.
No one laughed harder than
Richard (Dick) Powell, director of
the film and also June’s husband.
“Remember, d a r l i n g?” said
Powell. “Peter's the guy you’re
in love with here. I’m only the
guy you're in love with at home.”
