Here’s big news about a new, direct streamliner service be-
tween Dallas, Denton and Chicago.
Starting December 5th you can step aboard the Texas
Chief and travel between Dallas, Denton and Chicago with-
out change.
For this new service you can enjoy all-room Pullmans or
new type chair cars with "stretch out” seats. A special lounge
car and dining car, decorated in the style of modern Dallas,
gives this new direct service a "Texas personality.”

given a chance to beat anybody
at the beginning of the season,
and the Texas Christian Horned
Frogs, who have beat everybody
but the Aggies, head into the final
stretch for Southwest Conference
honors this week.
The Cadets have only to take
their arch foe, the University of
Texas, at College Station Thurs-
day to sew up the 1955 conference
crown. But after the game they
will be hanging up their suits
because they are barred from post-
season games for recruiting vio-

It didn’t take the Denton Broncos long to convince area
fans and the members of District 3-AAA that although they
started too slow to win the crown this year, thev are finish-
ing, many think, as strong as any team in the district.
The point is well taken. Since the perfection of the jet
propelled aerial attack with "Slingin’ Slim” Jim Adams at
the controls, the Broncos have beaten their last two foes,

scores were reasonably close, -----------------------1-----

by taking a 13-8 beating at the
hands of Louisiana State.
The Aggie-Texas game became
a sellout Monday afternoon when
a block of tickets returned from
Austin were sold within 30 minuts
at College Station. The televised
game will start at 1:15 p.m. Thurs-
day instead of the customary 2
p.m. kickoff.
The Aggies went through a'short
and light drill Monday, concen-
trating on polishing up defensive
and offensive plays. Exacting
Coach Paul Bryant described the
drill as satisfactory.
With the exception of reserve
end Stanley Bull who received a
leg injury against Rice, the Frogs
are expected to be at full strength
for their game against the Mus-
tangs.

cotton bowl nailed down, have an
outside chance of winning the con-
ference championship. They will
be wearing the crown if Texas Top-
ples A&M and the Frogs beat the
Southern Methodist Mustangs at
Fort Worth Saturday.
A Texas victory and a TCU
loss this week would throw the
two teams in to a second place
tie but the Frogs would still get
the Cotton Bowl bid because they
defeated Texas earlier in the sea-
son.
Baylor and Rice meet at Houston
Saturday to wind up two un-
spectacular season records. They
currently occupy sixth and seventh
place respectively, in the seven-
team loop. Arkansas, which ranks
fourth in conference play, wound
up its 1955 season last Saturday
SLEEPY NEWLAND FOR FIRST DOWN
Lafayette Newland (37) makes his way down to the Greenville 16-yard line picking
up a first down in the third quarter. The small 138-pound back had tongues wag-
ging at Greenville about his break away running in the 26-19 Denton victory. New-
land teamed with James Shelton to provide the spirited defense that bottled up the
Lion backs throughout the game. (Photo by Mary Ann Jennings)

Such a passing attack is not
made by just one man such as
Adams, or even two, mention the
towering end, James Shelton. It
takes the magnificent support of
the line from one end to the other,
and not least the hard running of
Thomas Sims and Lafayette New-
land to draw the defense in close.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Bron-
cos will meet McKinney at 2 p.m.
