Three of six grass fires Sunday
started from firecrackers, Fire
Chief Tom Robinson said this
morning.
Robinson cautioned against the
use of fireworks from the stand-
point of fire safety. Earlier in the
week Police Chief Jack Harrison
pointed out that the shooting or
sale of fireworks within the city
limits is a violation of a city ordi-
nance.
The grass fires started from the
fireworks Sunday were located at
Highway 24 and Robinwood, Green-
wood and Glenwood, and 400 Wood-
land. The fires were brought under
control before they caused any
property damage, but Robinson
said that it only takes one grus
fire begun at the right place to
destroy a home or other property.
Two alarms Sunday proved to
be false when firemen found the
reported fire under control, and a
crew of men maintaining a watch
over the fire. Both alarms were
turned in for a fire on a turkey
farm south of Denton on the Dal-
las highway.
Eight fires over the weekend
pushed Denton’s fire calls for the
year to a total of 372.

WASHINGTON um - Expressing
hope that infinite peace may "live
with us and be ours forever,"
President Eisenhower sent his
Christmas message last night to
his countrymen and the world.
“To each of you, wherever you
may be, from Mrs. Eisenhower
and me, a very merry Christmas,”
he said.'
Then from Gettysburgh College
near his country home in Pennsyl-
vania, he pressed a key, and 8,000
varicolored lights on a giant Christ-
mas tree in Washington burst into
brilliance.
"Well, It worked," he said as he
saw the lights go on via television.
Mrs. Eisenhower sat beside him.
The tree, a 65-foot spruce from
the Black Hills of South Dakota,
stands just south of the White
House grounds.
