“Denton County is in better fi-
nancial condition than it has ever
known in its history,County
Judge, and District Judge-elect
Jack Gray told Denton Lions at
their regular Thursday night meet-
ing.
Explaining that the county was
$149,000 in the black at the first
of the fiscal year. Gray said that
the county had been able to work
into the black and stay there
while getting some of the best
highways in the state in addition
to maintaining one of the smooth-
est working county governments
in Texas.
The next district judge of the
16th Judicial District told the
- group that ad valorem tax account-
ed for 39 per cent of the county's
operating capital adding, "Per-
sonally I think the ad valorem tax
is the world's worst tax.”
Auto licenses give the county
. $175,000 a year, or 27 per cent of
the county's money, and fees
bring in another 17 per cent.
