If you are one of the majority
(59 per cent» of American women
who wear eyeglasses, can you also
wear the smart new hats?
The Millinery Institute of Am-
erica in checking with leading de-
signers. found that wearing eye-
glasses has very little to do with
what styles of hats a woman can
wear.
If you wear glasses, milliners
say. your only consideration
should be to coordinate the design
of your hat with the design of your
eyeglass frames. With appropri-
ate frames, you can wear almost
any hat.
Of course, one pair of eyeglass-
es is not enough. To be correctly
and attractively dressed for ev-
ery occasion, you could not possi-
bly wear the same hat. either.
While you won’t need as many
pairs of eyeglasses as you have
hats, you should own at least two
or three different types.

With sportswear. sturdy. practi-
cal frames are essential. Depend
ing on the size and shape of your
face, these may be bold and dark
or made of bright-colored plastic.
With such frames, your casual hat
should be one with dean simple
lines and interesting color.
Trimmings, if any, should he
bold enough to balance the opti-
cal weight of the frames—making
the eyeglasses part of the decor-
ative scheme. Better yet. indulge in
a. striking set of frames and play
them up with an untrimmed or self-
trimmed hat that has its greatest
width across the temples, just
above the widest part of your
eyeglasses.
A brimless or off-face hat is best
with prominent frames as It avoids
adding distrating shadows to the
face.
To go with smart day and after-
noon dresses, choose a pair of eye-
glasses with light, decorative
frames. If the lower part of the
frame is transparent or rimless,
the arch of the top repeating that
of your brows, these frames will
not cast shadows.
With a bit more eye make-up,
to balance these "darkened"
brows, you can wear a wide choice
of pretty hats. Curving brims har-
monize with the curve of the
frames. A draped velvet hat, a ■
fur-laden felt or velours, even a
high feathered toque with a filmy
malines veil will be very becom-
ing.
For gala evenings, wear eye-
glasses frames of silver or gold-
colored metal and rhinestones, if
you wish. Choose a small, close-
fitting hat of a rich fabric. Or wear
a big. beautiful dinner hat of black
or white ostrich plumes.
Remember to choose the hat
that is becoming to you.
