CROSS COUNTRY SWIMMERS—Gerry Morton and Ed Armbruster losers in tK”
TV quiz show Truth or Consequences, rest in their portable swimming pool, mount-
' ed on a truck that stopped in Denton Friday. The mirror (now covered against
possible rain) in the rear allows the driver to make sure one of the two is swim-
ming as long as the truck is in motion.
The -recognition, which came as
possible under the rale* of the
national body, was celebrated
with a holiday by the students in
the clinical program at Parkland
Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
Action of the board was reported
by Miss Eleanor M. Helm, secre-
tary of the Collegiate Board of
Review. Department of Baccalau-
reate and Higher Degree Pro-
grams. ' '
The National League for Nurs-
ing will include the TWU unit in
nursing when a revised list of ful-
ly accredited programs is pub-
lished in the August issue of "Nur-
sing Outlook," Miss Helm wrote.
The TWU program combines
academic courses in Denton with
practical experience and special-
ised studies at Parkland.
Sophomores, junior and seniors
are at the hospital, the latter
comprising the first graduating
class using the combined facili-
ties. 7
In all, TWU enrolled 282 colleg-
iate nursing majors last fall.
The university has offered cours-
es for nurses since its earliest
days as CIA. It was in 1953 that
the expanded program was devel-
oped between what was then
TSCW and Parkland Memorial
Hospital, the latter directed by the
Dallas City Council and the Com-
missioners of Dallas County.
Arrangements for the two in-
stitutions to join forces were work-
ed out by Dr. John A. Guinn, TWU
president, and Albert H. Scheldt,
administrator of the Dallas Coun-
ty Hospital District.
A diploma program conducted
by Parkland since 1914 was dis-
continued with enrollment of the
class in 1954. That class was grad-
uated in August of last year.
The present baccalaureate plan
got underway when the new has
pital was opened on Harry Hines
Boulevard in September of 1954.

Dunne showed the pair a huge
semi-trailer truck carrying a
small swimming tank and portable
bathhouse. As long as the truck
is in motion, one of the contestants
must be swimming in the tank.
Thus, they literally will be the
first men to swim from the Pacif-
ic to the Atlantic.
If and when they make it to New
York, each will receive approxi-
• mately 83.000 worth of prises, in-
cluding an all - electric kitchen,
$500 cash and a two - week all-
expense paid vacation in Las Ve-
gas. '
“We’ll need that vacation," Arm-
bruster quipped. “We’re going to
have to thaw out somehow."
DIVING SUITS
Wearing 1890 - style bathing suits
ever black rubber cold - weather
skindiving suits. Morton and Arm-
bruster swam into Denton about
noon Friday. The truck - swim-
ming pool, flamboyantly decorated
with banners proclaiming the
world's first coast - to - coast
swim and it* sponsoring agency,
Truth or Consequences, stopped on
Fort Worth Drive so the two swim-
mers, the truck driver and ac-
companying publicity man could
have lunch.
Morton, an ex - jet pilot four
months out of the Air Force and
now working as a photographer for
North American Aviation in Los
Angeles, said the tank on the rear
of the truck had lost about half
its water on several steep hills
west of Fort Worth. He said they
planned to refill it in Oklahoma
City.

Entertainment has also been

states, as well as in Hollywood.
The Sargents and their puppets

Also, vocal novelty numbers will
