istrar. Special guests will be mem-
bers of the senior class, who will
also be honored at a banquet Sat-
urday night.
Commencement exercises will
be held at 9:30 a.m. next Sunday,
with baccalaureate services set for
8 a.m. the same day.

Graduating seniors will hear
Dr. Travis White, president of
Midwestern University in Wichita
Falls, deliver the baccalaureate
address tonight. Dr. White will be
supported on the program by mu-
. sical numbers by the high school
choir and the playing of the pro-
cessional march by the string or-
chestra.
Valedictorian for the class is
Jan Smith, who finished her three
years with an average of 95.76.
Salutatorian is Josephine Hutch-
eson. who boasts an average of
95.69. They are the daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Smith.

nounce special honors.
The two honor students and

receive college scholarships from
the Texas Council of Church-Re-

McKINNEY (Special) - A Pla-
no man was being held Saturday
in Collin County jail on assault
charges after he allegedly fired
shotgun blasts at two sheriff's dep-
uties at midnight Friday in Plano.
Held on two counts of assault
with intent to murder, one for will-
ful Injury to Collin County proper-
ty and one for inflicting bodily in-
juries was 25 - year • old Neil
Newton Jr.
Charges were filed Saturday
morning with County Atty, Dwight
Whitwell in McKinney.
Recovering from gunshot
wounds Saturday were deputies
Fred Thomas and Ray Brooks.
Brooks was treated and released
early Saturday morning at McKin-
ney City - County Hospital. Thom-
as was reported ini good condition
Saturday in the same hospital.
Thomas suffered arm wounds
and Brooks was wounded in the
face. ( •:
According to Sheriff Floyd Wil-
liams' office, deputies Thomas and
Brooks went to Newton's home In
Plano to serve a citation for Dal-
las County officers in connection
with a law suit on a debt. After
ringing the doorbell three times,
the officers decided no one was at
home and returned to their car,
which was parked in front of the
house.
After they entered the car,
Brooks and Thomas said, Newton
