Each year in the United States
1,250,000 acres of farmland are
taken out of cultivation for hous-
ing developments, factories and
highways, reports the Department
of Agriculture.
Nowadays many shops include a
new group of dresses designed es-
pecially for the mother of the
bride, in their regular bridal de-
partments. Here, also the bride
may inspect bridesmaid fashions
at leisure. and choose colors and
fabrics which will carry out the
general theme of the wedding.

Bridal Gown
Sets Theme
Of Wedding
By DOROTHY ROE
All over the country, happy girls
are planning June weddings about
now — and are finding that selec-
tioh of the wedding dress is only
part of the picture.
The wedding dress, of course,
is the things that must be chosen
first, and that sets the theme for
the rest of the bridal party.
And while the mother of the
bride has the responsibility of
planning the multitude of details
of food, service and decorations
for the reception, choosing that all-
important dress is strictly up to
the bride herself, She may ask ad-
vice of her mother or her friends,
but the final decision rests with
found window shopping on Fifth
Ave. She had completely forgot-
ten about the wedding.

Says Millet:
"I think this is going to be one
at the most popular styles of the
season, as there seems to be a
sudden demand for slender or
sheath type u aidtag gowns. sf
which we always have one or two.
Formerly these have not been
nearly as popular as the gowns
with full skirts and trains, but
this year the picture has changed.

the star of the show. When it comes
to the wedding dress, what the
bride says goes.
For a spring or summer wed-
ding, sheer organdy. silk organza,
batiste, delicate Chantilly lace or
embroidered Swiss organdy are
prices, from less than $100 to as
high as father’s checkbook will
allow.
Once the wedding dress is or-
dered and in the works, the bride
must choose the. dresses for her I
bridesmaids, the flower girl (if
there is to be one) and even may
be allowed to sit in on the selec-
tion of the dress to be worn by her
mother and the mother of the
bridegroom.

A FOUR-BIT BRIDE
A Pennsykania clergyman was

were in order and they seemed
well suited so he went ahead. Af-

"Preacher, what do I owe you?”
Told there was no charge but
that he could make a gift to the
church if he liked, the man dug up
a dollar, bill and handed it over.
They all talked some more until
the minister finally arose. Then
the man gulped a couple of times
and said, “Don’t I get any
change?" The clergyman, game
but startled, said. "Certainly, how
much do you expectr"
