B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation 2228 Guadalupe Street Austin, Texas Gentlemen: I have Mr. Saulson's letter of the 10th. In reply, I beg to advise: (1) that all funds raised by the Galveston Jewish Welfare Association have been appropriated. (2) that by resolution of the board practically all the funds raised were assigned to the United Jewish Appeal as we failed to raise our quota. We have sent the United Jewish Appeal 0100,000.00 and the remaining balance was practically all appropriated for pur- poses and institutions of relief rather than any cultural type. (3) it has been the policy and practice here that those receiving allocations from our funds were not expected to make special drives or campaigns. There is no resentment whatever for the Hillel Foundation to have made a separate drive here, but it was definitely the opinion of several of us who aided in the cause that the chief reason for your making the drive was because of our inability to appropriate from our Association funds. Yours very truly, Chairman, Galveston United Jewish Welfare Association 11
