Miss Margie Hart entertained with
three tables of bridge Friday after-
noon. The rooms were made gay
with summer flowers. Miss Norma
Van Vliet won high score and Miss
Jewelle Watson held low. Dainty
refreshments of cake and ice cream
were served.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Lester Skaggs,
Mr. and Mrs. R. Newell Waters, Mrs.
Ben Waters and R. C. Waters were
Mrs. Stella Ritz was hostess to the
ladies of the Lone Star Club at her
home on last Tuesday afternoon.
Twelve members responded to roll
call which was answered by “Ques-
tion Box.’
During the business hour Mrs.
Overpeck resigned as secretary of the
Club. Mrs. Myra Hill was elected to
fill the unexpired term. After the
hour, Mrs. Hill gave a report of her
trip to the Short Course'. Refresh-
ments of cake and lemonade were
served to Mesdames Neva Carter,
Tressie Overpeck, Lola Hughes, Mary
Adkins, Elsie Adkins, Minnie Barr,
Cara Rice, Edith Hughes, Myra Hill,
Mrs. Boiler and Clara Hughes. The
next meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs. Howard Carter on August 21.
The Edcouch Amateur baseball
team and the Brownsville Amateur
League team played two games on
the Edcouch diamond on Sunday af-
ternoon, August 12. Brownsville won
Fordson Tractors
Saturday night and Sunday with
Misses Anna and Wilva Moore.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller attended
the ball game at Edcouch Sunday.
Mrs. L. L. Hill spent Friday with
Mrs. Cecil Ferguson.
Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Jones of Mer-
cedes visited at the M. T. Peters
home Sunday.
J. W. Jones spent several days the
past week with his mother, Mrs. M.
E. Jones of Hargill.
Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Pleasant spent
Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs.
A. H. Downing.
L. L. Hill will move this week to
miles 10 and 4.
Cecil Ferguson and family spent
Sunday night at the Will Ferguson
home.
Mrs. W. M. Moore and daughters
spent Monday afternoon with Mrs. G.
H. Reagh. The afternoon was spent

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Plank and
children of Mercedes called Tuesday
at the Charles Stransky home.
A party of perfect appointments
was given Friday afternoon at the
beautiful Spanish Skaggs home. An
unusual color scheme of green and
yelolw was carried out in detail. At
the four tables of bridge score win-
ners were Mrs. R. A. Rowland, Mrs.
Porter Davis, and Mrs. Harry Ratliff.
The delightful lunch consisting of
stuffed peppers, cheese straws, stuf-
fed olives, sandwiches, ice tea, an ice
course and individual cakes was
served on the lawn.
Miss Ima Gilliland of Abilene was
honoree at a delightful party Monday
evening given by Miss Gladys Gib-
son. Roses in tall vases formed the
decorations. Miss Gilliland was pre-
sented with a lovely gift. High score
was won by Miss Ruth Brandon and
consolation by Miss Mary Heller. De-
licious refreshments of chicken salad,
sandwiches, olives fruit salad and
punch was served.
A Point Isabel swimming party was
enjoyed Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Coate, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robert-
son and son, Turner, and Morris
| both games. The score was 7-4 in the
first game and 7-3 in the second
game. Next Sunday the Edcouch
team goes to Pharr for a game with
the Pharr-San Juan team.
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Newman and
family were picnicing at the lake on
Sunday afternoon.

day afternoon.

nie and Nellie Harper were in Wes-
laco on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Carpenter of
Weslaco were in Elsa Saturday on
business.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Stewart and Mr.
and Mrs. Byron Kelley enjoyed an
outing and picnic supper Sunday
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. John Stokes were
dinner guests Sunday at the home of
Mrs. Stokes’ parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hughes on Mon-
day evening.
Mrs. Edna Barr of Brownsville was
a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Barr
and Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Adkins one
day last week.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hughes were
business callers at the Guest home
near Panchita on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bledsoe were
shopping in Harlingen on Saturday
afternoon.
Harry Overpeck and R. E. Hughes
made a business trip to McAllen on
Thursday. Mr. Overpeck purchased
a Chevrolet sedan while there.

employment with the gas line com-
pany at Harlingen.
