precious little thing to see the light of
day he'd drum upon the desk and sing:
"I soon shall have an overcoat that like

Special to The Statesman.
Houston, Tex., Dec. 4.—Contradic-
tory statements were made in connec-
tion with a reported oil gusher at the
big field near Matagorda.
Jonathan Lane, who is at the head
of the company, today reiterated the
statement that he has no information
of a gusher and said he felt sure if
one was struck, or even a good oil
flow was struck, he would know of the
fact.
In the face of this a telephone mes-
sage to the Chronicle from Matagorda
this afternoon stated that a fine gush-
er has been secured and that excite-
ment in that section was running high.
The message stated that the gusher
was of the first class variety and that
many citizens from town had visited
and seen it with their own eyes.
