road in Van Zandt and Wood counties,
10 miles long, running from Grand Ha-
bine in Van Zandt to Hoyt in Wood,
connecting the Texas and Pacific and
the Missouri, Kansas and Texas sys-
terns. It is operated by the Katy.
Captain Fulmore thought it would
be a good idea that the board have an
estimate made for connecting all the
schools with the sewer. The sugges-
tion met with favor by the board.
At 0:30 o'clock the board adjourned.

The Christmas holiday question was
next taken up. It was decided to close
the schools at noon Thursday. Decem-
ber 24 and reopen Monday, January’ 4.
Mr. Gerhard brought up the ques-
tion of better sewage for the Wool-
dridge school. The Mothers’ club. Mr.
Gerhard said, called his attention to
the need of sewage at the schools.

Capitol Yesterday.
Judge William Bramlette of Ravena,
Fanpin county, was a welcome visitor
at the capiol yesterday. He had. been
in attendance upon the sesion of the
Masonic Grand LodgeinWaco and Was
in Austin for recreation and social

Judge Brmlette is past high priest
and pst grand master of the grand
lodge of Texas, and ten years ago was
chief clerk in the general land office.
He reports crop conditions fair in
Fannin county, but the late cold spell
disastrous to the fall cotton.
Senator Atlee remained in Laredo
( during the recent epidemic of yellow
fever and rendered heroic service to
the suffering of the city. He was him-
self a victim of the pestilence, but after
days of torture, became convalescent
and recovered.
Business and social conditions, he
says, are returning and assuming nor-
mal proportions, and the people are
very hopeful and happy over the dis-
appearance of the disease and the
bright outlook for good trade from ndw
on.

Upon motion of Captain Meta a vote
of thanks was tendered L. N. Golbeck
for an oil painting of Judge John T.
Allan, deceased, a great benefactor of
the Austin city schools, who in his will
provided a fund for establishing and
maintaining the manual training
school. This picture is at present
hung in the board of trustees’ room at
the high school, but It will be removed
and hung in the draughting room of
the manual training department.
Mr. Gerhard moved that the board
make efforts to obtain a full biography
of Judge Allan and have it framed.
