Their Annual Reports.
Comptroller Stephens stated yester-
day that the annual reports of county
tax collectors throughout the state
were rolling in rather lively during the
past several days. A short time ago
the comptroller sent a notice to the col-
lectors who had failed to file their re-
ports, which should have been done
last May, requesting them to at once
send in their reports, with the result
that reports have been coming in from
every quarter. It was learned yester-
day that there were now only three
collectors out of the 240 counties who
. had not as yet sent in their reports. It
is Imperative that these reports be re-
ceived us soon as possible in order that
in the event the state could collect the
tax from the railroads under the Love
bill, the revenue would amount to
>347,552.73. This is the amount of tax
represented by the railroads that en-
joined the state. One road alone would
have paid $i 4,724.58 in taxes under this
act.

State Health Officer Tabor yester-
day had his attention called to a
charge made by the Beaumont Jour-
nal - and reproduced with commenta
by the New Orleans Times-Democrat,
in which it is alleged by the Journal
that the Texas quarantine against
shipment of freight out of Shreve-
port and other Louisiana points to
Texas was being maintained and kept
up at the suggestion of Dallas and for
the purpose of giving Dallas business
which would otherwise go to Shreve-
port and other Louisiana points.
Dr. Tabor branded the statement of
charge as being not only unfounded
but absurd, in view of the fact that
there is no embargo against the ship-
ment of freight out of Shreveport, or
even New Orleans, into Texas, pro-
vided, of course, the shippers comply
with the quarantine rules promul-
gated by the state health department
and which became effective on July
