A prominent county candidate, whose
name is withheld for obvious reasons,
was yesterday held up and robbed in
a most remarkable manner in the
court house. It was with extreme re-
luctance that the reporter could get
him to talk of the incident at all, an 1
then only after giving his word’ that
no name would be used, and the utmost
secrecy would be observed in refer-
ence to the matter. The gentleman
who was held up la at present an oc-
cupant of a county office, and an as-
pirant for its further contfnuancy.
The holdup in question, according to
what information the reporter succeed-
ed in worming from him, occurred in
this wise: Shortly after 4 o'clock he -
was sitting quietly in his office n||
alone, with limbs and feet stretched
out on the desk before him, while he
was comfortably leaning back in the
easy chair at an angle of about sixty
degrees, the while leisurely smoking a
25-cent homo made cigar, and busily
reading the morning paper, when all
at once he was startled by voices near
the window talking in- dntmated tone.’.
He was dumfounded when, from the
conversation, he.learned he was the
party under discussion. listening he
heard of their designs upon him; not
knowing what to de, he-waited-tor sco
what would ensuv, when the dour
opened quis kly to admit the partie s
who were engaged in the conversation
which so startled bim that he came
near falling of the chair. However,
the chair held him up. After the con-
vernation with the gentlemen, which
they desired, he found himself robbed
of his peace of mind, and arose ds-
gustedly and hastened to Heath, the
Quirk Sho Repairer, to get his shoes
half soled and heeled in fifteen min-
utes, 1003 Congress avenue.
