The Statesman contains more ORIGINAL
news because about five-sixths of the world’s hap-
penings take place during daylight hours—and
the EVENING paper serves its readers with
nearly all of the daylight news VERY SOON after
it happens.

It is a fact that we devote mote time to read-
ing when we are the least occupied and our mind
is at rest, and it is a fact that we have more leisure
time in the afternoon after we are through with
the day’s work. The afternoon paper, therefore,
is the most popular and most thoroughly read.

In Austin, as elsewhere throughout the coun-
try, the week-day EVENING newspaper has al-
ready taken its logical place as the most popular,
most thoroughly read daily. * This is true because
it reaches the reader at a time most convenient
for him to sit down and digest its contents; he’s
through with the day’s work and worries—his
mind is at rest, and he, as well as all of us, wants
to know ALL ABOUT what is happening.

Grover Hartley.
From all report. Joe Tinker expects to go much better in the Ameri-
can Association race this year than last, when he came down the stretch in
fourth place. The Senators look like a strong outft this season and with
Grover Hartley, the ex-National and American leaguer, behind the bat the
team will be strong in backstopping at least. Hartley was with th. St
Louis Browns before joining the Senators.

With many veterans of professional
baseball leagues on their line-up the
S. M. A. came over and defeated the
Texas Longhorns on Clark Field by the
score of 6 to 0 yesterday afternoon.
Coach Disch, saving his first line
men for the crucial ball games with
Baylor University Munday and Tues-
day, sent his second line men into the
fray. Bradford and Russell did the
pitching for the losers. The pitchers
did well but costly errors behind them
did much to their undoing. Both the
second string men and the first string
men who came on in the sixth inning
made errors.
Higgenbotham, pitching for the Ca-
dets, had the situation well in hand,
striking out eleven men, allowing four
hits and issuing not a single pass. Kel-
tis, shortstop of S. M. A*, featured with
his hitting, getting three hits out of
five trips to the "bat. The entire S.
M. A. team worked like a machine,
only two errors being lodged against
them as compared with nine errors
lodged against the collegians.
