Mr. I. H. Kempner, Jr.

My dear Herb:
Nothing of much importance to advise you.
At h)ugar Land yesterday I went over with Bill and Bob the
matter of the proposed movie reel to be made. My unfamiliarity with
the cost of such a layout prompted me to think that the benefits
would hardly warrant the price we had to pay, but I was assured by
both of them that the price 's reasonable and would be well justified
by the advertising benefits. We agreed that they would have the
party in houston go to :Louisiana to take pictures of growing cane
with a view of closing the contract with them after you return.
In the discussion it was agreed by all of us that probably
two different scripts should be framed; one to be shown in Texas,
the other in Oklahoma. the changes would be few, but for use in
Oklahoma we could put less emphasis on our Texas location as com-
pared to our southwestern location and express and improve a good
neighbor policy with Oklahoma.
I had Tom talk to you about iitchell's proposal for us to
lease him increased acreage so that he can succeed in his scheme
to carry the well dogn to the yegua sand. Ay conclusion and pref-
erence is to lease him 500 acres additional and ask 3/16 royalty,
or if he insists on more than 500 acres to ask for 1/4 and settle
on 1/5 royalty. The lease to be for a term of not over one year;
to be held beyond that only by development.
In communicating with Julio Lobo about some cotton mills
in Cuba he mentioned that he expects to be in New York next week.
I thought you might want to know this before you left New york for
Washington though according to your schedule you will at most get
away from New York some time Monday.
Fondly,
11
