I sdvanced. pupils. Misses Katherine
1 ntacher. Elste Mulkey and Nettie Lewis
lithe Glee Club was the headliner from
the view of popular appreciation, in
fact the audience generally were not
in an enthusiastic receptive mood for
the heavier piano numbers and the
scarcity of the Cleo Club proper on the
I program was to many a disappointing
j feature of the concert.
The pianists showed remarkable poise
and freedom in executing the difficult
numbers which they gave. Mrs. Pee-
' Pies was forced to encore after playing
I a "Cerceuse" and a prelude. She ren -
dered Chopin’s “Nocturne in G major"
which.was received by her audience.
Mi .Mulkey gave the delightful "Swan
Song* (Lohengrin) while Miss Fis ier
played "Kammenoi -Ostrow” (Rubin -
stein) iwith considerable poise and feei-
ingt Mis.Lewis gave a delightful ren
dition.of "The Prisoner and the Swal-
low by Croisez.

BRENHAM, Texas, May 24.— Otto
Bahldick, proprietor of a local meat
market, was arrested on a charge of
aggravated assault following a severe
whipping that he gave his step-son,
Paul Koehn, saying that the boy at-
tempted to steal money from him to
run away from home. The boy was
brought here from Germany where
they had been on a visit by his moth-
er and step-father about five m m
ago. He is about fifteen years old.
Vahidich furnished bond in the sum
of $500, and will be tried at the next
term of county court.
