Kermit Oilers Defeat
Jal in Practice Tilt
The Kermit Oilers defeated Jal,
14 to 9; in a practice game
Wednesday night at Lipham Field.
This was the first hardball game
ever played under lights in Ker-
mit.
Manager J. M. Lipham of the
Kermit club stated the lights did
not make any difference in the
brand of ball the Oilers played.
Lipham also said there would be
another hardball game next
Wednesday night, but did not an-
nounce the opponent. At press-
time Friday, he was trying to
contact Carlsbad, N.M., in an ef-
fort to get that club for the
Wednesday night engagement.
W. K. Wharton, Precinct 1, has
withdrawn from the race after
announcing for re-election.
The two county races which
probably are drawing the most
attention from voters are the
sheriff’s race, and that for county
attorney. F. E. Summers is ask-
ing re-election for the sheriff’s
berth, which also includes the
duties of tax assessor-collector,
and Eddins is asking for the same
place. In the county attorney
section W. T. Hair, local attor-
ney, and H. L. (Button) Rober-
son are opposing candidates.
Seeking election for Wharton’s
county commissioner place are
W. A. Townsend, S. H. Cruncle-
ton, Earl G. Smith and I. C. Jar-
man. Names to appear on the
Wink precinct include L. E.
Franklin, Mack Moore, and Mel-
vin Dow.
J. H. Meers is opposing incum-
bent E. M. Crutcher in Precinct
3; J. A. Slaughter, asking re-
election in Precinct 4, has three
opponents, including H. R. Hor-
ner, Jack Williams, and Ben
Franklin.
Three holders of county-wide
offices are unopposed for re-
election, namely, J. B. Salmon,
county judge; J. W. Eisenwine,
