< AP>—Seven German prisoners of
war were sentenced yesterday by
an army general court martial to
life imprisonment at hard labor for
the slaying of an anti-Nazi fellow
prisoner
They were convicted of joint ac-
tion with common intent in the
fatal beating of Hugo Krauss at the
• Hearne, Tex , prisoner of war camp
on Dec 17. 1943, Krauss, a native
of New York who was inducted in-
to the German army during a visit
with his grandparents in Germany,
died six days after tire beating.
According to testimony during the
trial the convicted men beat Krauss
because he had denied the truth
of German reports on the war
which the prisoners received by a
secret radio.
The convicted prisoners were
Sgts. Anton Boehmer and Helmut
Meyer, Cpls Guenther Meisel. Wer-
ner Jaschko, Erich von der Heydt
and Heinrich Braun and Pfc. Wer-
ner Hossann.
'Hie record of the trial will be I
forwarded to the commanding gen- |
eral of the Eighth Service Com-
mand, who has the authority to
grant clemency or reverse the ver-
dict After his review the record
will be sent to a board of review in
the office of the Arrays Judge ad-
