Turning his spare hours into
profit, by the aid of bees and per-
sonal ingenuity, Howard H. Smith,
formerly of Gainesville but now of
Francis, Oklahoma, finds his hob-
by a worthwhile adventure. Mr.
Smith’s regular employment Ls of
a nature that he works only cer-
tain days each week and instead of
remaining idle on the Off-days, he
devotes his time to growing sweet
clover, raising bees and marketing
their honey.
His honey is of such fine qual-
ity, it has been awarded first prize

CHIMING TO CROSS ROADS,
SAYS GAINESVILLE CITIZEN
Editor, The Register:
Very soon the legal voters of
Texas will be called ■ upon to de-
cide a very responsible and impor-
tant question, that of choosing men
to run our ship of state for the
next two years.
What is your responsibility and
mine? First, I want to say that
if I am a good citizen, that I will
have secured a poll tax certificat
and will make my personal appear-
ance 'at the poll and cast a vote
for the man that is honest and is
efficient, for no man that does not
possess both these qualifications,
she uld not be in a place of re-,
sponsibility or trust, and if we
knowingly elect a man that is not
qualified to hold office, then t e
responsibility is ours.
It is a daily occurrence as we
go down the highway of life (and
death) that we observe such warn-
ing signs as "railrcad crossing”
or “stop, look and listen" giving np-
tice that there is danger ahead, the
observance, of which could not be
taken as an intelligence test.
The big question to be settled
next Tuesday is who shall we elect
governor of Texas? In July the
voters of Texas nominated Mr.
O'Daniel and thirty days later tie
voters of Texas repudiated their"
The Saddle Club, an organiza-

and Sam Beattie, reporter.
Followings the election, Mr. Ru-

vital importance, and questions
that every voter has a right to
know regardless of his or her per-
sonal opinion.
If this gets into print, some one
will say that I am a Republican,
so pardon a personal reference,
but first I believe that right is of
more importance than party pol-
itics. I was bom a Democrat, of
Democratic parents, was taught to
be a Democrat both by precept
and ekample, have lived in Texas
। more than fifty years, always
voted the Democratic ticket, even
in 1928.
Now, Mr. and Mrs. Voter there
is just one question for you and
me to decide. is party politics
alone to determine for whom we
are to cast cur ballot for governor?
Shall .we support a man that will
not declare his stand on moral
• questions, questions that are is-
sues now up for consideration, and
to be passed on at the next session
of our legislature? Regardless of
your opinion or mine, can you vote
for any man that does not have the
moral courage to tell us how he
stands on moral issues that will
vitally effect every citizen of
Texas ?
Respectfully,
R. J. SMITH,
Gainesville, Texas.
