No doubt you have been reading about the break-
up of AT&T and the formation of seven regional Bell
operating companies. Four of those companies
have elected to sell and distribute the IBX. This is in
addition to a sales and distribution agreement
which we enacted with General Electric last spring.
The automated office is no longer a vision for the future. It’s here
today. The age of information is put to practical use by more and
more progressive organizations across the nation.
As InteCom continues to grow and prosper, we
will represent Allen nationally and internationally. I
look forward to continued contribution to the Allen
economy and community.

In the vanguard is the Integrated Business Exchange, the IBX from
InteCom. It’s the first integrated voice and data switching system in
the world. And it provides the physical path for linking telephone and
digital computer in one efficient communications package.
1983 has been a year of building for InteCom. An
obvious example of our growth is the new facility
alongside the headquarters building. Now occupied
and operational, it houses some of our assembly
processes, using state-of-the-art testing equipment
and robotics.
Since InteCom reported its progress last year, we
have been making phenomenal strides. During our
past fiscal year, InteCom Inc. again broke all of its
records for revenues, earnings and new orders for
our family of communication products.

We also helped to create a new market. Called te-
nant services, our IBX switch is installed in large of-
fice buildings where many smaller companies share
the telephone and computer facilities. By sharing,
these companies lower their expenses and have ac-
cess to the sophisticated features found only on
large computerized systems like the IBX. One of
these installations is in the Galleria Office Tower in
Dallas and several more are being installed in Lin-
coln Property buildings in Dallas, New Orleans and
other cities.

InteCom is quickly growing into a sizeable cor-
poration, yet we never lose sight of the support we
lave received from the City of Allen and its
residents.
The melding together of voice and data switching
is the business opportunity that created InteCom
just five years ago. Our growth is the consequence
of designing and manufacturing a product that in-
tegrates diverse communications—telephone, data
processing and word processing—through one
powerful, computerized system. That system,
known as the IBX, is built in our facility in Allen and
shipped to large corporations throughout the
United States. Some of our customers are Coca-
Cola, Ford Aerospace, the University of Chicago,
Encyclopaedia Britannica, Conoco, Dow Chemical
and many others.

To manage our growth and meet the demand for
our products, we have nearly doubled our
workforce. During 1983, InteCom hired more than
500 people. Many of our employees live in Allen, -
Plano and surrounding communities.
We introduced new IBX products and features
which will allow us to compete in a much larger
market and to increase the capabilities and
usefulness of IBX products for many years to come.
