My dear Sara:
I have yours of the 4hth.
I am afraid my letter regarding Dan's cerdraft was not
entirely clear. Your impression is correct that when the Im-
perial Sugar stock was sold all members of the faily who had an
indebtedness at the office agreed to have the funds received
applied to their indebtedness and this was done in every case.
As of June 30, 156, and December 31, 1956, each and every one
had a credit balance on 11. Kempner'a books and practically all
still have. Of course the amount has been reduced in almost
every instance.
You doubtless are aware that several others have in
the past ten years had the benefit of an overdraft, but in
every other case the amount was small by comparison and short
in the lapse of time that an overdraft prevailed.
I have no desire or intention to push the matter of
these individual cases to a point of determining exactly how
much would be due in each case. I think you may both guess
at and be satisfied with may reasons and will reserve any further
discussion until I have the pleasure of seeing you again. I am
content to have the subject appear in rr diary as a matter of
historical data to be preserved and not with the object, under
conditions as they exist today, of calling it to the attention
of anyone else aside from you, Lee and Harris Kenpner.
With reference to your letter about the request of
Dr. Marcus, I will t ry to find , spare photograph. I have
only one and I don't care to part with it permanently. I
may see if it can be reproduced as a glossy picture.
The old time press copy book apparently goes back to
1883. We find that we cannot photostat letters in a book
with our office machine and it cost something like Q10.00 to
have copies made of three letters that I undertook for my own
use. Dr. Tinsley wants 110. I have written him today to see
if he will join in payir , the expense; 1 w:tll pay for about
ten of them or one-tenth of the cost.
With love to all,
Yours,
11
