kessrs. Eugene B. Smith & Company Cotton Exchange Building Dallas 1, Texas Gentlemen: We have received a token subscription from your compress here to the Red Cross campaign. We are presently 25% short of our goal. If such a result becomes final through lack of liberality and charity, it establishes a record that does Galveston and its commercial in- terest no good; this aside from the worthiness of the Red Cross cause and the work they do in this country and on the battlefield. Such an outturn of failure would react unfavorably on every enterprise in Galveston. We respectfully ask and urge you to authorize a total sub- scription of at least x200.00. If we can have such an example set by you and others of the group we are soliciting, we are really aiding each other here. Whatever is given, whether by an individual or a corporation, is, as you know, subject to deduction on your income tax return anc whether you give $h00.O0, $300.00, 1200.00 or more it will aid a situation which we believe your contribution would help to avoid. Yours very truly, ADVANCE GIFTS COMMITTEE Chairman Co-Chairman
