CQRRESPONDEN r ARRESTED
Entered National Park Where
Roosevelt Is Huntixg Mountain'
Lions His Dog Shot.
Cinnibar Mont Apzil 9. Presi-
dent Roosevelt made an early start
this morning from his headquar-
ters in the park for an extended
trip through certain portions of the
preserve. There is a largo number of
mountain lions in the park and as
- the authorities are making a dc-
lerniined effort to exterminate them
it is possible the President may get
a few shots during his stay.
Notwithstanding that numerous
notices had been given to the out-
side world that no newspaper men
wbuld be allowed in the park while
the President was there one en-
terprising rcjwrter tried to force
his way in yesterday. He rode a
horse and had a dog with him. The
man was arrested before ho had
proceeded far and the. dogshot. Later
the correspondent was released.
Secretary Loeb received no word
from the President today beyond
the innouncemeni this morning
that he had left his headquarters
for a trip into the park.
An unmarried preacher in a
nei-hlH.ring town who was young
and new in the harness was leading
the services at a young folks' meet-
ing. "Oh Lord" he played with
fervent eloquence "give us all clean
hearts pure hearts sweet hearts."
An audible titter went around the
congregation but - the girls all
responded ;'Amen." Lebanon (Ma.)

GOOD LEGISLATION.
Austin statesman.
The governor has signed the bill
providing tiiat notice of all sales of
real estate under execution shall
hearafter be published in some
newspaper. While this bill is pec
uliarly beneficial to newspapers it !
is in the interest of the publ
flmt. it wilr nrevent in a lareenieas
-- ----- i tj :
ure the.purchase of such lands by
sharks who do little buf watch for
just such opportunities to quietly
possess themselves of lands forced
to sale and which the general pub-
lic has no means of knowing about.
Whatever .legislation tends to
keep the public informed of the
transfer of real estate is ycod legis-
lation and the Statesman approves
it regardless of interest. That this
is beneficial to the newspapers
makes it that much more meritor-
ious. It is no onerous burden to the
litigant and will in most cases
bring back far more-than the add-
ed expense.
Representatives Talbott of Wise
and Napier of Wood have rendered
especial service in the passage of
this bill and Representative Davis
of San Augustine came to the rescue
of the measure at a most opportune
time for which the newspaper men
and the public owe him thanks.
