HOUSTON AND TEXAS CENTRAL.
Chicago, Nov. fl.— Wheat prices on
the local exchange broke more than
2 cents , today because of rumors of
financial embarrassment in different
parts of the country and the reported
closing down of several flour mills at
Minneapolis. At the close the wheat
for December delivery showed a net
loss of 2 3-8c. Corn was down 1 7-8c;
oats were 1-4 lower. Provisions were
Ci -2 2-2 *M IUU.
The wheat market was weak all day.
I he chief causes of the'decline in the
opening was lower prices at Liverpool
and the reported closing of a number
of mills in the northwest. The weak-
ness became more acute in the half of
ter and spring months with the excep-
. tion of December which closed at the
‛ bottom while the final tone was steady I
the demand was mpstly for covering
shorts. The weather over the holiday
was considered favorable and there
was no change in the character of
Liverpool. ?

under bearish pressure there was a
general recession in values Clear and
bright weather throughout the belt ar-

shorts became cautious as a result of a
number of bullish estimates made on

were firm at an advance of 1-16 of a
cent. Middling, 10 3-4c. Sales 4600
bales on the spot and 2300 bales to
arrive.
Futures opened steady 5 to 6 points
above the close yesterday as the result
of a more or less favorable Liverpool
and reports o{ buying orders received
before the opening. Reports of em-
barrassments in the business world as
a result of the financial situation were
Uken advantage of by the bears and
Horn declined nearly 2 cents in sym-
pathy with a sharp break in provisions
and on favorable crop reports from
Kansas. The close was weak at the
lowest point. Local receipts 87 cars; 1
twenty-five of contract grade.
Trading in oats was very light. The
slump in wheat and corn and a weak
market for cash grain were the bearish 1
factors. Loocal receipts 87 cars. 1
Provisions broke sharply on heavy
selling by'leading packers. The great-
est weakness was in January pork
which declined 75 cents from the close
of yesterday. A weaker market for
live hogs and the expectation by a
prominent local packer that hogs
would soon be selling at 4 cents were
the weakening factors. At the close,
January pork was down 75c at 813 20
Lard was of 22 l-2c at 87.95. Ribs were
25027 l-2c lower at 87.05^7.07 1-2.
