Rebuilding tha. Dam.
To the Hditor of The Statesman:
There are three propositions every
one who thinks will, I believe, admit
to be true. . .
First—Over 75 per cent of the people
of Austin are in favor of rebuilding the
dam, and some ‘way some day it will
be rebuilt despite all unfair opposition.
Second--When the dam in rebuilt, no
matter in what way. or at what coat,
the people of Austin will foot the bill
, Third—The taxpayers and all con-
sumers of water and light should care-
fully consider the details of every plan
suggested: Its coat, permanency and
amount of power that will be obtained.
Living near the dam, I have taken
Interest in the moys made during the

thirty holes across the bed of the river,

by the cores extracted by said borings,
that if vuch work had been done at the
first building of tho dam and the foun-
dation placed only a few feet lower that
a solid rock foundation would have
been obtained and hundreds of thou-
sanda of dollars thereby saved to our
beautiful etty. I believe the mayor and
comamissioners have suggested a plan
whereby many thousands of dollars
will be saved to the people of Auatin
who must pay the freight. I believe it
hs a clean plan, and I believe if the
people of Austin will come to the sup-
