Need for Compromise.
"And e made the comnpromlse. Now,
that it what we do in congress and
through the executive all the time and
while theoretic. liv it may seem a rule
of the thumb method of government in
the long tun as you look back through
the history of the country you will find
that the course pursued, which1 was
the result of compromising the views
of the majority into a sound and mid-
die comarse, was very much better than
if we should follow some doctrine and
tried to follow its thory to the utmogt.

common sense of the American peo-
pie through their ropresentatives. to
work out the problema we have, not all
the effect to the view of everyone, but
to give some effect tn the view* of all.
"Under that system it to perfectly
true, as Senator Smoot $ay8, we have
the best government on earth and rop-
resenting that government, I have at-
tempted to take a ourney through the
covntry of some thirteen or fourteen
thousand mil’s for the purpose of con-
v!rcing the people. If I can, that very
man. woman and child born or natural-
lied in thin country has a voice mid n
right to be heard at Washington and
that his intereata are subject to care-
ful consideration by those who are rep-
resenting the government at that place
It is. T hope not a partisan journey,
