This new decision of the supreme
court seems to settle the question
finally. It establishes the principle
that the railroad companies are free to
make rules and regulations for the gov-

rules and regulations,” the court add-

I come from civic associations and citv

able to announce that I have secured
Mr Hemenway’s services for a month's
ecture tour. These lectures are to be
delivered to city audiences in such
cities and towns as desire to avail
themselves of his services free of cost.
Of course, It will be impossible for him
to visit every city and town in the
state, but I shall attempt to direct his
energies to conform with the greatest!
need for his help. Civic associations,
school garden associations and city or-
ganizations who desire to secure Mr.
Hemenway’s lectures are invited to
communicate with me that 1 may be
able to prepare an itinerary for him.
“Mr. Hemenway will reach Texas,
July 25, and deliver his first lecture be-
fore the farmers' congress at College
Station, after which he will visit such
places as desire to have him.”
Continuing, the bulletin says on this
point: "If proper effort were made and
co-operation had among those con-
cerned, an abatoir or slaughter house
could be had at no great expense that
would prove satisfactory to the health
authorities, and that would at the same
time entail upon the butcher no ex-
cessive charges.”
Further the bulletin says: “Two facts
are evident: Unsanitary conditions
surrounding the slaughter houses of
most of our cities should be Imme- V
dately eliminated, and the honest re-
tail butcher be given an opportunity
to pursue his business free from the
throttling power of the packing houses
which now have an immense and an
unjust advantage over him.”
