As practically all of the letters of-
fering a civic plan of action to be fol-
lowed by the Rotarians contained more
than one suggestion, they were re-
turned to the writers with the request
that all but one suggestion be elim-
inated and the details for working out
ths remaining suggestion be plainly
given. Rotarian Ross, who suggestion
to adopted by the club, will be given
a crisp $5 note.
The club authorised the directorate
to make a contribution to the munic-
ipal orchestra, which will give a se-
ries of three free entertainments to
ths public this year. The first enter*
tainment will be held at the Majestic
theater Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
Frank L. Reed, the director, was prev-
ent at the luncheon.
Both the president and the secre-
tary of the organisation were elected
to represent the local organisation as
delegatee at the Shreveport district con-
vention, March 22 and 22. "Billy”
Richardson will be one of the vice
presidents at the convention.
A message to President Wilson, as-
suring him of the loyal, warm blooded
support of Austin Rotarians, reached
the white house some time Sunday
afternoon.
The new members present Tuesday
were George W. Todd. manager of the

"Why are there 3,500,060 people in

Science, new thought and theosophy

The city commission and the mu-
nicipal engineering department spent
Tuesday morning studying plans for
the city sewerage disposal plant which
will be erected at the end of Holly
street on the river bank if the $200,-
000 bond issue carries, which Mlayor
A. P. Wooldridge will shortly submit
to the voters.
The plans, which were drawn by
Herring & Gregory of New York, ex-
perts on designing municipal plants
of this nature, call for a plant that
will cost in the neighborhood of
$170,000. If built, the plant will care
for all of the city'* sewage, which, by
reason of the treament given it, will
become harmless. If ths povisions
of the anti-streams pollution law aio
carried out, Austin will have to build
such a plant or be liable to the $1000
fins after the law becomes operative.
The plant that the coin mission hs
in view will care for a city of 50,000
inhabitants, treating sowage matter
from the city and from all of the state
institutions located in Austin.
Ths remaining $30,000 of the pro-
posed bond issue is desired for the .
laying of a cast iron main along the
International & Great Northern right-
of-way to West Lynn, continuing from
there as a vitrified main through the
Confederate home grounds and on
out to Clarksville. By laying a east
iron main in the Metlon mentioned,
contamination of the sand beach re-
serve by leakage will be stopped,
while further contamination that new
results will be stopped by providing
Mwer connection in the Clarksville
community.
That the sewage plant will not be
menaced by high water in fiood
periods, the plans provide for a levee
protection. A storm water drain for
Garden street will also be necessary.
The Austin Rotary club Tuesday

The progrm, arranged by W. C.

vocal solo by Miss Flora Reese, Mrs.

contest was to determine the number
