starts this Thursday a three-day
run at the Queen-Hancock.

Carpentier rushed to the defense
of his country at the beginning of
the war and was assigned to the
aviation corps, and time after time,
his daring deeds thrilled his coun-
trymen and the world.
He was decorated thrice for brav-
ery. receiving also the Croix de
Guerre, also the French Military
Medal, the highest honor a man can
receive in France, for obtaining need-
ed information* by flying low over
the enemy's linea.
While returning to his lines his
machine was riddled and he was
overcome by gas.
He has only been in one ring bat-
tle of importance since the war,
when he fought with Joe Beckett,
heavyweight champion of England,
whont he knocked out in forty-eight
rounds
His fortune. Invested almost en-
tirely in mines at Lens was swept
away uring the German ocepation,
and hut little remains.
Just before sailing for the United
States to appear in motion pictures
for Robertson-Cole, he was married
to Mlle. Georgette Elsasse, who ac-
companied him to this country.
Georges Carpentier. whose first
screen picture is "The Wonder Man."
to be shown this Thursday at the
Queen-Hancock, surprised every one I
at the sturdiof by the way he suc-
ceeded as an actor.
Even he himself, when he first
saw the film, remarked smilingly: "I
didn’t know I was such a good
actor!*
