3iad been sprung just a little too
early.
General Miles at the head of
he prohibition ticket would be
Icept busy explaining why he re-
cominended the re-establishment of
ihe army canteen.
Now if Br'er Willie Hean-t
xeally desires to secure the goo;
-will and support of the fraternity
3ie should turn his attention to the
paper trust and proceed without
Joss of time to break it up. In
iis double capacity of journalist
.and congressman he surely ought
to be able to do someting to the
irust.
"For therii;;itthat needs assistance.
For the v.tolj; that needs resistance.
For the glory in the distance
For the good that we can do."

That's true that is the senti-

democratic primaries in Missour

interest of good government as

JMissouri teat the staunch yourg

Viva Folk!
Mistakes .will occur even in the
nost carefully edited paper but' it
as presumed that the average reader
lias sufficient intelligence to sup-
ply the correct words in place of
Ihe erroneous ones as he reads.
However the mistakes sometimes
serve a useful purpose in showing
who reads the paper as some peo-
ple never mention it excepts to
-criticise its blunders. It is the
object of the paper to be read
ven if it has to make mistakes to
sichieve that end.
No one takes a greater interest
3n the bright prospects of the
Brownsville country apparently
than Editor J. P. Cranke of the
esteemed Laredo Times and no
one is better posted on the splendid
possibilities of this region than he.
He has paid several visits here and
sspent several months with us hav-
ing written some good articles on
this country for a certain northern
magazine. Judging by an editorial
Ity him in a recent number of the
Times we may expect the pleasure
of a visit from Mr. Cranke as soon
as thcrailroad is finished and he
will be warmly welcomed by his
old friends. Here is the paragraph
referred to: "It is announced
that the grade of the Lott Road
as now completed and over a hun-
" dred miles of steel laid. Another
month will see all the steel laid
and trains running and Brownsville
will have realized her dream of rail
connection with the outside world.
The lower Rio Grande region has
Leen disappointed in not getting
the Aransas Pass also but Colonel j
Lott's road will answer all practical
purposes a. the present time. We :
can all go down and see our
Brownsville friends within a reas"
