tion for a new trial was overruled
by Judge Jas. Hamilton in the dis-
trict court at Georgetown Saturday
in the case of Manuel Sagu, who
was given the death sentence a week
ago for killing S. O. Wofford of
Austin with a razor on a Katy
train near here. Dec. It, 1920.

committee of representative citi-
gens of the state to make a study
of petroleum conservation and sub-
mit recommendations to the legis-
lature This request is embodied
in a resolution passed by the execu-
tive committee of the Texas cham-
ber following the recent joint re-
port of the American Association
of Petroleum Geologists and the
Lnited dtates geological survey.
This report which was published
after exhaustive study of petroleum
reaources of the United Statea, es-
timated that there is barely enough

Ths committees for the soldiers4
and sailors' memorial hospital are
working daily and feel very much
encouraged over their three days’
work. At a luncheon at Bond's
restaurant today the figures
amounted to 114,900. In a few
hours after noon 1700 more was
raised making a total of more than
115,000. The school children are
taking deep interest and will in-
crease the funds to a notable de-
gree. In the high school there was
considerable rivalry, the seniors
and sophomores raising the largest
amounts.

this city at which time safety meth-
ods and accident preventions were
discussed by various guests.

line Emin Phillipa, aged 97 years,
died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Adele Hoon, in Taylor after
an illness of ten daya.
The body waa taken to San An-

GEORGETOWN, Jan. 29 —S. J.
Enochs has been appointed to the
Georgetown postoffice to succeed
Mrs. F. T. Rot he, who was an ap-
pointee of the last administration.
Mr. Enochs will go into office
with the advantage of several years'
experience, as he was postmaster |
at Lometa, hs former home, about
eight years. For the last several
months he has been working with
the organisation forces of the Texas
farm bureau, but will sever his con-
nection with that association and
assume the post ma ster ship at
Georgetown.
Mr. Enochs has also been active
in the oil and real estate business
in this county and elsewhere in the
state.

BRYAN, Jan 29.—Miss Ethel
May, the 13-year-old daughter of
Mr and Mrs. Albert May. and Miss
Kittle Worthington, aged 14, a
sister of Mrs. May, both had their
hair dipped off by an unknown per-
son or persons who entered the
home of Mr and Mrs May and ths
room where the girls were sleeping
some time during Friday night. The
intruder made entrance into the
house through a window in the
kitchen, and IB the hurried exit left
the window open. The hair of both
girl* was braided, and the braids
were cut off close to the head offi-

gation, but no due as to the guilty
party has yet been found.
