city manager plan, the city’s in-
terest is pooled.
I do not know whether this would
make much difference with a city
the size of Austin, but with a city
the size of Tyler it makes a big
difference. The people here would
not under any consideration go back
to the old form of government I
think the big thing about the city
manager plan is the fact that the
people believe that they get one
hundred cents on the dollar for their
taxes, and you know that !a one
thing that the citizens of any town
do not believe they get. Of course,
where they have the city manager
plan the citizehship is kept informed
as to the activities of the city, what
the city is doing, etc. The way
the city manager plan operates in
Tyler, the city manager position is
absolutely out of politics. He knows
that he can go ahead and build
up an efficient organization in every
department of the city government
and that at the next election, even
though there is a new set of com-
missioners. there will be no changes
made. This is a big advantage be-
cause you know 4t is expensive to
build up an organization and then

Todays word is SACRILPGIOUS.
It's pronounced “sak-ri-lee-jus."
with accent slightly on the first
and more strongly upon the third
syllable. “It is often." Webster re-
marks. "erroheously pronounced,
even by educated speakers, as if
spelt sacreligious."
It means in violation or profana-
tion of sacred things.
It comes from latin “sacrilegus,"
that gathers or picks up sacred
things, a combination of the two
Latin words "sacrare," sacred or
holy, and "legere," to read or
gather.
It’s used like this: "Any sugges-
tion that their country has net the
right to use force if Germany should
default in reparations payments is
treated by French statesmen as al-
most saorilegious."
