LOCKHART, April 13. — Will
Roberta, negro, was held in county
jail here tonight, remanded with-
out bail. charged with the murder
of 21-year-old Gip Twitty six miles
1 east of here Wednesday. The grand
jury, which has just adjourned, has
been called in special session for
Monday.
Surrounded in Brush.
Roberta was captured at 9:30 this
morning seven miles from Dale to-
ward Bastrop. When five officers
surrounded the negro in the brush,
forcing him to surrender. Although
the negro was armed with a shot-
gun. he made no Attempt to fight
the posse.
The capture came after a thrill-
ing rhase ahkh led Lockhart of-
ficers. headed by sheriff W M. El-
lison and deputy T. B. Fields over
eastern Caldwell county all yes-
terday and last night.
Officers say that Roberta admits
shooting Twitty. and has signed a
statemet. Young Twitty was to-
day burled at Temple, his former
home. Twitty was fatally woundeT
by the negro when an argument
arose on the farm of Twitty’s
mother regarding land tenant mat-
ters. The negro grew incensed at
Twitty. went into hjs home for a
nun, and shot the young farmer.
