golf tournament
The match provided a tense fin-
ish, Ouimet winning by a single
stroke at the end of 18 holes, an
advantage gained on the opening
hole where he took a 4 against a
rival 5. The medal scores were:
Ouimet 77 and Dr Willing 78.
Their cards were:
Ouimet out 454 244 244—27
Willing, out 158 544 584—28.
Ouimet, in 544 464 855—40 77.
Willing, in 445 445 254—44 78.
While his putting was not as sen-
sational aa that he displayed yes-
terday, Ouimet’s game on the whole
was pretty to watch He took
three puts on the second, sixth and
eight holes, halving the first two
and losing the last On the thir-
teenth he was wide with a seven
foot putt.
Willing’s ability to score in ths
seventies astonished the British, in
view of bis form. The Portland
medico is not stylish but his game
was as steady as Gibraltar and his
putting sound and sometimes bril-
liant.
Quimet, on the other hand, dis-
played flashy golf. Although he
lacked Willing’s steainesa, he re-
covered remarkably well and was
always strong on the greens

f Of American Club
Manager Bill McKechnie of the
Pirates is banking on George
Boehler to add much strength to
his pitching staff. Thereby hangs
an interesting tale.
Boehler was purchased from th*
Tulsa, Okla., club of the Western
t aeociation for a fancy figure.
With that team Boehler won 28
games last year, a most remark-
able record.
The St. Louis Browns of the
. American league needs pitching as
much as any club. The St. Louie
Browns had the inside say on
Boehler, yet failed to take him.
becaune Boehler didn't care to
pitch in the American league.
Boehler has wice served in the
Johnsonian organisation Detroit
parried him for About three years,
hoping he would arrive After a
few years in the minors the St.
Louls Browns picked him up.

him to Tulsa.
