GRAIN AND HAY
The proposal to remove the Elm
creek dam, near Leonard Park,
might bring about a county-wide
i controversy. it was learned Mon-
J day, as city officials announced
that the stone and concrete struc-
ture was listed among the assets
of the City of Gainesville to the
’ extent of $2,000. The county com-
missioners court ordered the blast- ■
ing of the dam last week.
The action of the commissioners
court, which was prompted by the
signing of a petition by several
hundred citizens of western Cooke
I county, was questioned last week
by several organizations in Gaines-
ville, and after an investigation,
it was learned that the court has
no jurisdiction over the dam. It
was explained by county officials
Monday that another dam on Elm
creek was blasted several months
ago by special permission of the
city council.
The final outcome of the court
order had not been determined
Monday, but it was the opinion
of both county and city officials
that no action could be taken until
the city council offered official ap-
proval or rejection of the pro-
posal.

“We can readily expect law en-

set back over a decade in effective-

is finally passed," Richardson
charged.
The highway patrol and driver's
license divisions have been self-
sustaining from additional fees
brought into county and state cof-
