On Saturday afternoon, March
23, a surprise birthday party was
given to Tiny Sledge, at the home
of Mrs. A. C. Wright. As each
guest arrived they were presented
a paper Easter cap.
When the honoree arrived “Hap-
py Birthday to You,” was sung by
all.
Several contests, games and an
Easter egg hunt was participated
in. Margaret Barto, Frankie Felc-
man, Lu Ann Tate and Leo Finch-
er were the winners and received
prizes.
Kodak pictures were takien as they
all gathered around the birthday
table which was set in the yard.
The table was laid with a white
cloth and a white birthday cake
for centerpiece, having thirteen
candles and the greeting “Happy
Birthday, Tiny.”
There were place favors at each
platre carrying out the Easter
theme. Ice cream, cookies and the
birthday cake was served to the
following gusts: Jela May Far-
rell, Billie Jone Sparks, Leo Finch-
er, Frankie Felcman, Fred Baker,
Luu Ann Tate, Ola Nell Snell,
Margaret Barto, Margie Valeck,
Cecil Sledge, Philip Fincher, Jim-
mie Cornelius, Max Rosenstine.
Mrs. Wright was assisted by Mrs.
Emil Barto.

Mrs. I. R. Allen, Jr., and Miss
Helen Crumley entertained Saturday
with a tea at the homa of the
former, 4411 Hall street in Dallas,
announcing the engagement of
Miss Callie Sue Allen of Dallas,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. R.
Allen Sr., of Ennis, and Doyle
Barry Bower of Dallas, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Phil M. Bower, Jefferson.
Assisting the hostesses in receiv-
ing the guests were Mrs. Allen, Sr.,
Mrs. James Allen of Ennis and
Miss Frances Benefield of Jeffer-
son. Miss Allen wore a chiffon
gown in rainbow shades and her
flowers were hyacinths. Mrs. Allen
Jr., wore blue chiffon and Miss
Crumley pink net.
The tea table was laid with a
lace cloth, and centering the table,
mirrored in a reflector., was a
bridal arch of fern and pink roses.
A miniature bride and bridegroom
stood inside the arch.
Presiding at the silver services
were Mrs. Hubert Rogers of Ennis,
sister of the bride-elect, and Mrs.
E. W. Crumley Sr. The refresh-
ment plate carried out a color
scheme of pink and white and
held a scroll tied with pink ribbon
and sweet peas, on which were
printed the names of the engaged
couple and the wedding date, April
19.
In this bouse party were Miss
Dovie Hudnall, Miss Pauline Wil-
son, Miss Jeanne Allen, Miss Helen
Lee Allen, Mrs. E. W. Crumley Jr;,
Mrs. H. W. Davis and Mrs. H. D.
Spalti.
Miss Allen is a former student
of Southern Methodist University
and is a graduate of the University
of Missouri. Her sorority is Alpha
Delta Pi. Mr. Bower attended Cen-
tenary College in Shreveport, La.
The wedding will take place at
! 8 p. m. April 19, at the home of
the parents of the bride-elect in
Ennis with only members of the
family attending. The couple will be
at home in Dallas after a wedding
trip.
Numerous parties hate been plan-
ned for the bride-elect. Among the
hostesses will be Miss Dovie Hud-
nail, Miss Pauline Wilson, Miss
Mary Elizabeth Warren, Mrs. Henry
Sholty, Mrs. Hubert Rogers, Mrs.
James Allen, Miss Frances Bene-
field and Miss Mercedes Boyer.
