T-4 Kutchko is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew Kutchko of
Simpson, Pa., and has been over-
seas since September of last year.
A ten-man patrol of volunteers
from Company G, of the 333rd
Infantry made the first contact
with the Soviets in a field near
Balow May 2. More than 12,000
Germans, including four generals,
who were caught in the squeeze
between the Russian and Ameri-
can soldiers, surrendered to the
Railsplitters.
Lt. William Blair of Waterbury,
Conn., led the history-making pa-
trol of which T-4 Kutchko was a
member, that shook hands with
the Russian troops.
The patrol had been picked
several days previously and
alerted for the early meeting. The
men waited for their chance and
then had to go through an artil-
lery barrage and a rain of small
arms fire on the Elbe river to
get to the east bank. They made
their way to an open field where
they were met by a small detach-
ment of Russian soldiers com-
manded by Senior Lt. Kovobach-

any other things containing pow-
der or other combustibles or ex-
plosive materials used in the
manufacturing of these items,
prohibiting the sale of same and
making it unlawful for any per-
son to fire or explode or set off
any squibbs, firecrackers, rock-
ets, skyrockets, or any other
things containing powder or
other combustible or explosive
materials within the city limits
of the City of Gainesville, Texas,
unless such person or persons
have first obtained permission
from the Mayor in the manner
prescribed for in this ordinance;
providing a penalty for the viola-
tion of any part of this ordinance
and providing that if any part of
this ordinance shall be construed
to be invalid such invalidity
shall not effect the remainder of
this ordinance. Providing that
this ordinance shall be accumula-
tive of all ordinances now in ex-
istence regulating and/or prohib-
iting the discharge or firing of
firecrackers and/or explosives,
and not repealing any ordinance
in effect; and declaring an emer-
gency.
Be it Ordained by the City
Council of the City of Gaines-
ville, Texas, that:
Section 1. That it shall be un-
lawful for any person, firm, or
corporation to store, keep, or
house in any manner any squibbs,
firecrackers, rockets, skyrockets,
or any other things containing
powder or other combustible or
explosive materials used for the
purpose of making any of the
above items within the city lim-
its of the City of Gainesville,
Texas;
Section 2. That it shall be un-
lawful for any person, firm, or
corporation to sell or offer for
sale by display, solicitation, or in
any other manner whatsoever
any squibbs, firecrackers, rock-
ets, skyrockets, or any other
