CPL wants you to know that while
we’re doing our best to get the present fuel
cost situation under control, we’re also
planning ahead.
People like Phil Franke spend a part
of each day working to insure that your
supply of electricity remains dependable.

Phil Franke is Manager of Nuclear
Development for Central Power and Light
Company, and his job is to get CPL into the
nuclear age as quickly as possible.
But today’s shortages of natural gas
and other fuels are unhappy reminders that
nuclear generation of electricity won’t come
until 1980.
But additional help is on the way.
Coal is the most plentiful fossil fuel
available, and CPL has ordered equipment
for a coal-fired generation plant.
We have ordered the necessary
equipment, a site has been selected, and we
expect to have the coal unit in operation at
least a year before the nuclear facility in
Matagorda County goes on line.
The Mercedes Independent School District serves nutritious meals every school day.
Students may buy lunch for 404 (grades pre-K-6), or 454 (grades 7-12) and/or break-
fast for 304 .
If we can be of any further assistance or if your income changes during the year,
please contact us.
