STRONG MOVEMENT
Direction by Charles Lee Dunn
played up the emotional impact
of the moral conflict, and gave
stronge movement to the play.
Particularly outstanding was a
prologue written for the play by
Dr. Arthur Sampley, vice presi-
dent of NTSC and former poet
laureate of Texas. This was given
by Jerry Don Somes, as an old
man recalling and explaining the
Penitentes" practices.
The well received play will be
repeated tonight at 7 tai the Stu-

UNFUBNISHED, Tbedroom,hom,
The play, which concerns the se-
lection of a young man for a cere-
maty which has him tied to a
crosa as Christ was, developed into
conflicting moral purposes in the.
Valdes family. Joie Valdez is to
represent Christ. He is at first
fearful, then deeply humbled at
the thought of his role in the cere-
mony. Jose to played by Robert
Garlach. His interpretation of the
part was forceful but occasionally
seemed Io border more on arch-
ed-brow incredulity than noble in-
nocence.
Joao's moral conflict cornea with
the discovery that his family, is
more interested In the political
resulta of his selection as El Cris-
