Autumn enrollment at the Den-
ton Preparatory School will in-
crease by about 25 per cent over
last year, based on advanced re-
gistration.
And the expected SO students —
both boys and girls — will attend
classes on an 150-acre wooded cam-
pus that surely must be one of the
most picturesque in the Southwest.
The campus is the former Grover
Godfrey farm on the Dallas Ex-
pressway, 2% miles southeast of
Denton.
Opening Sept. 10th, the school
will offer work from nursery school
through the 11th grade. The 12th
grade will be edded next year. For

An accurate way to de-
termine the growth of an
area is to check school en-
rollment
And after two years of relative
calmness as far as providing class-
room space is concerned, Denton
school officials would rather not
look at enrollment this year.
The reason: most of the approx-
imately 4,700 Denton public school
students this year will face a more
acute classroom pinch than Den-
ton has had in five years.
The biggest overcrowding will
be in Denton Junior High School,
which only two years moved into
a larger building when the new

Registration in all Deaton
schools will be held on Sept. 2,
a Wednesday, at 9 a.m.
The early start of school this
year comes because Labor Day
doesn't fall until the second week
of September.
But students will still have a La-
bor Day holiday on Sept. 7.
Here’s the official school calen-
dar for the entire year:
AUG. 31, Monday — Meeting of
all new teachers in the office of
School Supt. Chester Strickland at
Denton Junior High School, 709 W.
Congress.
SEPT. 1, Tuesday — General fac-
ulty meeting at 9 a.m. at Denton
High School Auditorium.
SEPT. 2, Wednesday — Regis-
tration at • a.m. in all 12 Denton
schools; school buses will be oper-
ating.
SEPT. 3. Thursday — All class-
es begin at normal hours.

That’s ths opinion of School
