voting results will be delayed, but she
tried to shift blame onto the Texas Sec-
retary of State, and her excuse rings hol-
low,” the Harris County Republican Party
issued in a press release. “The real reason
for the inevitable delay is Clerk Trautman
is pushing a system not ready for prime
time, with disregard for the law.”
The Harris County Republican Party
added that to ensure election integrity, a
10-year-old Texas statute forbids connect-
ing voting equipment to an external net-
work such as the Internet.
The Harris County Clerk’s Office will
provide results as they are available; how-
ever, a delay is expected due to the chang-
es in the States Advisory and the amount
of polling locations reporting. In the past,
final reports were not completed until
about 2 a.m.
The early voting and mail ballot returns
will be available after the polls close at 7
p.m., as the change does not affect the pro-
cess of voters or election workers.
At the end of early voting, 137,460 peo-
ple voted in person and 15,304 voted by
mail, for a total of 152,764.

Election results could be delayed to-
night after the Texas Secretary of State
made a late rule change to the counting
process.
Harris County election officials say it
will take longer to tally results since elec-
tion staff and law enforcement are now
required to drive mobile ballot box cards
from each of the 757 election polling sites
to the downtown central counting station.
“This last minute change and disruption
to the election process in Harris County
was reckless and unprofessional,” Harris
County Clerk Diane Trautman said. “As
if the disaster with the voter roll wasn’t
enough, now the (Texas Secretary of
State) has added disrupting the election
process in Harris County to the list of their
fiascos.”
“The Harris County Republican Party
has taken credit for this change, in addi-
tion to opposing countywide polling and
rejecting joint primary elections,” she
added. “They continually place party pol-
itics above the voters of Harris County.”
Trautman’s previous plan was to drop
