The new building of the Taylor
Park Church of the Nazarene, with
the exception of a few minor de-
tails, is completed and ready for
occupancy. Even if the weather
hinders completion, the building
will be dedicated Sunday, says the
Rev. H. D. Williams, pastor.
Actually, all that was needed
earlier this week was about an
hour’s work. Windows had not been
sealed and there was a little fin-
ishing work to be done in the of-
fice. But those, are things that
can’t be done if the weather is
damp, says the Rev. Mr. Williams.
Dedication will be Sunday at 3
p.m. The church, located at 1903
McCormick, is a district home mis-
sion project. It is the second Church
of the Nazarene in Denton.
The Rev. Raymond W. Hum of
Lubbock, district superintendent,
will conduct the service. The regu-
lar morning worship hour and Sun-
day school classes will be held as
well as the dedication service and
in Sunday School since the' first
services were held in June.
PLACES OF AMUSEMENT
Tenets the Denton Nazarenes
hold dear in their efforts to live
Christ-like lives are avoiding plac-
es of amusement which they con-
sider have the appearance of evil.
They don’t go to theatres, ball-
rooms and are vehemently pledg-
ed to fight the trafficking of to-
bacco and intoxicating beverages.
Just as strongly the church is
against quarrelling, gossipping and
descension in its ranks. Dishones-
ty in business and excess pride in
dress are also condemned.
The Manual of Discipline which
the congregations follow was pat-
terned after the old Methodist
Manual. Only in the last 10 years
have ministers of the faith seen
the necessity of giving their wives
wedding rings. Previously, any
sign of jewelry was considered out
of place in the simplicity of
dress.
The Nazarene movement began
in 1908 around the time Pentecostal
groups were being formed in dif-
ferent sections of the country. The
Nazarenes believe in the second
definite work of grace when Christ
prayed in the garden that God
would keep not only the first cen-

sharp contrast with those of the
1800s seldom "preach against” the
evils of the day.
Of the few that does, the Naza-
rene Church stands strongly for
clean and pure living and considers
it a privilege and duty of Chris-
tians. Denton has two churches
following the faith and manual of
discipline in the Nazarene order:
the First Church of the Nazarene
at Bolivar and Congress and the
Taylor Park Church of the Naza-
rene on Willowwood.
These two churches are pastored
by the Rev. Lonnie Voodhies and
the Rev. H. D. Williams. The
First Church remodeled earlier in
1959 with members giving the rock

Sunday Topic
Running away from one of
God’s immeasurable purposes is
the theme of Dr. W. B. Slack’s
sermon topic, “The Immeasurable
Purpose” for Sunday morning ser-
vices at Denton’s First Methodist
Church.
Dr./lack says the sermon is
base on the text, “Arise, go to
Nineveh, and cry unto that city.”
“Dearest Savior Watch Thou
O’er Us" by Berlioz will be the
morning anthem. Miss Marilyn
Murphy, an NTSC student from
Dalhart, wifi sing “Entreat Me
Not to Leave Thee" by Goun-
od.
Dr. Slack says the church eve-
ning services for the next month
or two will be something differ-
ent. Rather than present a series
of sermons, he will lead a study
about the beginnings of religion by
the people who had their first ex-
periences with God and religion.
The study will be based on , the
Book of Genesis, a story of crea-
tion as early man understood it
and sought to find his place in it.
